The younger kids that watched the dvd actually seemed to get more
out
of it. The high school age groups tend to think that it was scripted
or that the persons in the dvd weren't sincere. There were very few
negative reactions to the stories though. Most who watched it in
later discussions tended to show that that was definitely not a life
path that they wanted to end up on.

The guys came out because they wanted to help
the kids out there, and I didn't know what they would say until
it was said. I taped it on my camera as the warden had given me
permission to do so. None of it was scripted and each guy talked
from the heart. I asked them if they'd talk to the
kids because I'd written the book and I thought that the tape would
work so much better as the kids could see and hear what it was like
and that the guys are just ordinary guys who made the ultimate mistake
in life by taking someone's life while committing a crime. They came
out because I asked them to, and because they wanted to help.
My youngest son Trevor and I have spoken at many schools and colleges
over the years and told our stories. The kids really listened
and said how much it helped them after viewing the dvd to hear our
story, and to hear Trevor tell how he got involved in drugs and
alcohol once his big brother was sent to death row for a crime he
never committed. If you'd like to read Trevor's story, check
